Final Certification Examination (ONLINE)

The final TAC TEA SOMMELIER® certification exam is to be completed in 70 minutes and is made up of the following parts:

  1. Tea Preparation (30%): Prepare a serving of tea for your examiners – white, green, oolong, pu-erh or black (chosen by draw).
  2. Oral Presentation (10%): Answer a question posed by your examiners on any of the following 6 topics: tea regions, tea history, types of tea and processing methods, health of tea, tea preparation or menu suggestions (chosen by draw).
  3. Multiple Choice Questions (30%): Answer 60 multiple choice questions.
  4. Blind Tasting (30%): Examine a series of 10 teas and identify: style, type and country of origin (depending on the country, what region).

Please note that we recommend booking the entire day for the exam. Once registration closes we will send you your exam component times (to be conducted via Skype). These will be between the hours of 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Eastern Time). No exceptions will be made.

The teas for your blind cupping will be mailed to you the week before the exam in a sealed envelope that must remain sealed.

Students must pass the blind cupping with a minimum of 75% AND an overall score of 75% to pass. If a student fails only one portion, they need to only re- take the failed portion.
